+----------------------------------+ |Mottzilla's ZQuest Tutorial | |Version 0.03 | +----------------------------------+ Ok. I am only gonna go over a few thing's you need to know. Things to get you started. 1. Ok. You need something first to do anything. What's that something? Well it's an overworld map. Ok when you start up Zquest you have a Clean Slate. Goto Quest and under quest Dmaps or just hit the d key. Hit edit. Change type to overworld. And change midi probably to overworld unless you want none or level 9 or Dungen music. That's all for creating and overworld map. 2. Placing Link Part 1. This is very important. Placing Link on the screen and on what screen you want. 1st start a new quest. Goto the spot you want Link to start at. Look at the bottom left of the screen. You should see over the mini map the is something saying S:## and # being the position of the screen you are looking at. If you haven't done anything with moving screens yet it should say S:00. Now remember your starting screens number. Goto Dmaps under quest or just hit the d key. Click dmap 0 and edit. Select type as overworld and leave level and color as 0. Click on the red numbers after continue. Use the arrow keys and backspace and the number keys to change the 00 to your starting screen position. 3. Placing Link Part 2. Now you have Link starting at your screen you picked. Now is a good time to put some stuff on your screen so if you start Link will have somewhere to be. I suggest putting a cave on the screen and for now don't draw too many screens. So you put a bit of stuff on your first screen including a cave. Now on the right is where your stuff is to put your stuff. In the middle of the screen at the bottom it tells you info about things. One thing says Combo type. The cave is the farther down one than the others. If you clicked the right one it should say Combo type: Cave. The other ones won't work. Now hit page down and the info in the middle of the screen changes. Click the Green rectangle option and Click where you want Link to start. It should be the forth box. After you just clicked you should see a green box for just a second. That is where you clicked and where Link starts on the screen. Now Link starts on what screen you want and where you want. 3. Items. Items are needed to make a good quest. To place an item on the screen hit the I key. Select the item you want. Once you selected your item it should be in the top left corner of the screen. To change where your item is you click the 1st box on the info in the middle of the screen where the green rectangle was. It should be a ruby. Click where you want it like you did for Link and "poof" The item on the screen is there. Now if you just placed the item where Link starts and you started and didn't see it well that is because the items never appear when you start if they are on the Link's starting screen. Now you can use items in your quest. If you want an item to only appear after you kill all the enimies on the screen hit F9 or data screen flags and click the box so there is an x in it. When I say the box I mean the one that says enimies ---> Item. That means if there aren't any enimies then the item is put out for you to get. The was simple. You now probably have atleast a starting screen and maybe a couple more with an item or two. Now if you just enter the cave now then you will mess up the game and be in the middle of nowhere. So lets say that you want to go in the cave and have a standard cave with a old man and a sword. 1st goto the very bottom left screen. This is a reserved screen that isn't part of the overworld. Draw your cave that you wanna use for shops people and so on. Ok now DON'T put anything in the cave. Just draw it up. Keep it close to the original. Don't worry about the fires and oldman just the cave. Use pagedown and goto our green rectangle. Now click close to your entrance. Now as your did with that green box place the other ones except for the item one by the entrance too. Now you got everything but the item box placed. We don't need to place the item box really. DON't put an item in the cave. Ok go back to the starting screen where Link starts and your cave is. Now if you tried entering your cave you'd be in an empty cave. At the screen with your cave goto Data and then room type. Click Special Item. Now goto under data Sp. Item. Select wooden sword. Select guy also under data. Select the first name. Goto Quest and Strings. Tell it to make a new string. In that box put what you want him to say. The edges of the box are like how it will appear in the cave. Now goto data and strings and select your string for what you told him to say. No if you try to enter that cave it will take you to your cave and there will be what ever you put at the screen where the cave you entered was. With my example you should be in the cave with an old man saying what you told him and a wooden sword. Recap: Ok Now you should be able to create screen on an overworld map, put Link on that map where ever you want, place items where ever you want. 3 1/2. To make a screen click a bush or something on the right scroll bar and click on the map where you want it. This is very easy and should require further explaination. 4. Dungeons. Dungeons aren't easy to connect to the rest of the world. First make your overworld have a spot where you want to have an entrance to a dungeon. You can put the tree together and you put a cave in the middle of the tree. There now you got an entrance. Now goto Quest and Map Count. Move the map count up one so it says 2 and then click ok. You then goto quest and goto map and select the next map. This map is blank as when you started the first one. Now go down till you are at the very bottom line of the map but not on the line that only has 3 boxs across like where we put our cave we talked about above. Now you have your starting point of a level. These starting points must be one the edge of the map so on the bottom row is ideal to start unless you already have you dungeon ready. Now You wanna start a room. You need to hit F5 and it will ask you about Templating. It will also show you a picture of what the floor will be. Make sure you select the tile like in the real Zelda. It is torward the bottom in the list on the right. You can hit the numbers on the number pad to the color of what it looks like while you are editing ONLY. To change it to level 1's color while you are playing goto Dmaps and select this dmap and click the 0 after color. Change it to 1 for level 1 colors and 0 for overworld colors. 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and so on are the same as the level. Now about templating once you have your tile selected hit ok. "Poof" it makes a room. No your are probably saying well it has no doors. Ok then you want doors well then simply hit F6 and click where you want a door and what kind. For this example we will say we are on the bottom row and we will make a door going down. Nothing is in the Dungeon room. Now going out this door will screw up the game. Goto data, Side warp. Change type to one of the I warps and the Dmap to the one with your overworld. Now change the 00 after screen to the position of your entrance. Now you can get out of the dungeon but right now you still can't get in. Go back to the entrance. Goto Data tile warp. Change dmap to the one where your dungeon is. Now change screen to the position of your dungeons first room. Now you should be able to make an overworld with items, dungeons, and your own custom terrain. TRIFORCE. To get the triforce make a room with the item triforce. Now goto side warp and change type to something like I warp w/Zap FX and change the dmap and Screen or continue numbers to your entrance postion and overworld map. No when you get the triforce you should leave the dungeon. Special Item Rooms in Dungeons. The bottom left most screen in the row with only 3 screens is your item screen. You need to keep the entrance tile the same as the normal Zelda infact I recomend opening Example.qst and going to a dungeon and hitting C or copy then going back to your dungeon and you paste with V or Paste in the bottom left screen. Then you need to place where you want special items to show up. Place the Item thing there but don't choose an item. Now you might wanna click the green and blue boxs like the item one and place them right at the entrance. Now when you hit a tile warp like stairs you go there instead of no where. No you are saying HEY where are the items. Goto the place where your stairs that you want to goto the item are. Hit data room type. Choose special Item. Then goto data and under room type is sp.item which you change to the item you wanna get down there. That's all for that. Screen and then type passage. Passages. Copy from the example.qst the passage screen. Put it in your level and in the bottom row second to the left. Now goto your place you wanna passage. No hit tile warp and then type should be passage. Change screen to where you wanna go. You should then be able to go through the passage first then you'll come out on the other side. Rafting. Everybody probably wants to have rafting. Now lets get are example. <--THIS IS STILL UNDER RESEARCH--> The Step Ladder. Lets say you want a 1 tile wide river of water blocking off a level. Now you put out the terrain so it is like this: Level --------- Link Now Link needs to get across so you <--(This Readme is still being made so is currently unfinished)-->
