Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When will the editor be out? Can you tell me ____ about the editor?
A: Check the editor page for info. Also check the forum and the ZQuest tutorials.
Q: I can't get the ladder in level 4. Is this a bug?
A: Yes, it's a bug in the quest file(s). The initial release of v1.60 contained several errors in the quest files. Please get the fixed files from the Quest Archive.
Q: Will you make a port of Zelda Classic to some other platform (Windows, Mac, Linux...)?
A: Possibly. Don't count on it, but I might port it to Windows.
Q: Will you release the source code?
A: Maybe. It's not the prettiest source code because of all the evolution it has gone through (it started in C--). Still, I might give it out it after it's all finished.
Q: Will you make a level editor?
A: Yes, there is an editor. No, it's not a public release yet. That's mostly because it's still being developed, so releasing it now would lead to a lot of complications with different versions.
Q: I want to write a game. Can you tell me about game coding in C++, compilers, etc.?
A: The C Programming section is up now. You can also find some tutorials at the Allegro home page under "Documentation".
Q: Where is "setup.exe"?
A: You can get it here.
Q: Are you going to make a sequel?
A: Sort of. We'll make new quests that will run on the same game engine but have new graphics, sound, enemies, items, etc. They'll still play a lot like Zelda 1 but with new challenges and stuff.
Q: Why can't I get the sword in the demo quest?
A: It's the white sword. In keeping with the tradition of the NES game, the old man only lets you take the white sword if you have 5 or more heart containers. Look around and you'll find a couple.
