2007/12/31 - Released Qianhong v3.5.1. This is a maintenance release to fix the "online tools" bug and to update links in the help manual.
This is the first new release in two years--hard to believe it's been that long. Hopefully the update goes smoothly. Happy New Year!
2007/12/20 - Posted a couple custom graphics sets contributed by players to the extras page.
There's also a link on the download page to the latest version of the ElephantEye plugin.
I also updated some old links. It looks like www.nchess.com is no longer the site Pham Hong Nguyen had been running, and WXF moved to a new URL.
The links to these sites in the Qianhong help manual need to be updated as well. And... apparently my web server stopped supporting the HTTP/1.0 protocol used by
the online tools in Qianhong (What's my IP and Check for Updates). I'll have to release a new version to fix these externally caused bugs.
2007/04/15 - Added a Spanish translation for v3.5.0, by Fernando Martin, to the
download page.
2006/08/08 - Added a French translation for v3.5.0, by Jean-Pierre Avy, to the
download page.
2006/01/30 - Opened the Qianhong Community Forum.

2005/12/04 - Released Qianhong v3.5.0. This is the first complete release
that supports multiple languages. There are two installers: one is English only,
the other includes both the Simplified and Traditional Chinese translations.

for all the hard work on the Chinese translations.The translation system is pretty robust and supports any language, so let me know if
you would like to translate Qianhong into another language.
There is also a new version of the ElephantEye plugin, version 1.05, on the
download page.
2005/11/28 - Released Qianhong v3.4.6, which fixes a few problems in the
last version (see the readme).
Some people have asked about a Traditional Chinese translation. It will be coming soon...
2005/11/26 - Released Qianhong v3.4.5, which includes English and
Simplified Chinese versions of the GUI and help manual. This is a work-in-progress
version--some things haven't been translated yet. Special thanks to Xingyuex (xingyuex.51.net) for updating the
Simplified Chinese translation.
2005/10/30 - I am working on language support and an updated
Simplified Chinese translation. Hopefully this will be out in the next week or two.

version that adds some cool new features, and hopefully not too many bugs... =)

some features, adds some features, and fixes a few bugs. Special thanks to
everyone who reported bugs or gave suggestions; you are helping improve Qianhong.
There's also a new file in extras that shows a game between
the ElephantEye engine and Zillions (and shows the new comment support for game files).
2005/07/22 - Released Qianhong v3.3 (English only). See the
readme for a list of updates. This version improves
some features, adds some features, and fixes a few bugs. It feels solid
and is a must-have upgrade. Let me know if you have any problems with it.
Next up: language support (which would be easier if I had a Chinese version
of Windows...).
2005/07/16 - I am working on more upgrades and fixes. The todo list has grown a bit as I have spent more time
playing/working on the game. Also, Qianhong is long overdue for some language
support. And I don't remember exactly why I removed the automated "online tools"
from version 2.98, but I am adding them back in with an option for disabling them
(and just using the links in the help manual--the way it is now). This probably
won't all be included in the same release; I plan on making a new release soon
with some of the features/fixes already implemented.
2005/07/09 - Released Qianhong v3.2 (English only). See the readme for a list of updates. Thanks to those
players who made suggestions. Also released is a slightly modified version
of Morning Yellow's ElephantEye plugin for Qianhong. See the
downloads page for details.
2005/06/02 - I haven't had much time to work on Qianhong lately, but a few people have made suggestions that I hope to incorporate into a new version soon. The poll had been up for months, so it was time to change it.
2005/02/20 - Released Simplified Chinese translation of Qianhong v3.1.2 and started GB and Big5 Chinese translations of this web site. Special thanks to Meifire, Patrick Hsieh and Wilson Chan for helping with translations, and especially to Xingyuex (xingyuex.51.net), who translated the entire executable and help manual into Simplified Chinese. The installer for the GB version of Qianhong v3.1.2 can be found on the Chinese download pages: GB and Big5.
2004/09/19 - Released Qianhong v3.1.2. I know I just made a release a few days ago, but this one has a couple good fixes in it. Thanks to those people who suggested these changes.
- Fixed "no perpetual chase" rule (hopefully... let me know if it still has problems)
- Allow "undo move" after checkmate (vs. computer or self)
2004/09/17 - Added the donation page so you can help support Qianhong.
I'm not going to beg or twist your arm, but all donations will be greatly appreciated and will
be used toward maintaining and further developing Qianhong.
I also changed the poll. The results of the previous poll showed that the improvement that most people
want is better built-in AI, followed by more AI plugins. I chose the name Qianhong (shallow red) as sort of a
disclaimer about the AI, but I am interested in learning more about computer chess techniques and improving
Qianhong's strength (though it will never rival commercial programs). As for third-party plugins, a few people
have mentioned they would like to make plugins for Qianhong, but so far no one has submitted one yet.
2004/09/14 - Released Qianhong v3.1.1, which is a small upgrade with the following fixes:
- Made networking optional (and non-fatal if it's not available)
- Fixed some bugs in starting games with remote players
- Fixed some bugs in sending color schemes to remote players
2004/07/07 - Added a poll in an effort to
better understand and serve Qianhong users.
2004/07/03 - Released Qianhong v3.1 and keplugin v1.4.
